Cerin AmrothIn Lórien, the Elven wood, their choice was made, with all they could... After thirty years of wandering, Aragorn came to Lórien on his way to Rivendell. Having lived fourty-nine years, he now had the wisdom of many years, and the Lady Galadriel saw it within him. She bade him cast aside his travel-worn clothes for silver elven garments. When Arwen Undómiel, who was then in Lórien, saw the fair elven-lord before her, she could barely recognize the man she had met beneath the trees of her father's house in Rivendell. And so she chose to love this man. Aragorn stayed in Lothlórien with Arwen for a whole season, until Midsummer's Eve. And then, in the twilight of the day, they went to the hill of Cerin Amroth, and there walked barefoot together, with the mallorn-trees above them and elanor and niphredil beneath their feet. "Dark is the Shadow," said Arwen, "and yet my heart rejoices; for you, Estel, shall be among the great whose valour will destroy it." "Alas!" answered Aragorn, "I cannot forsee it, and how it may come to pass is hidden from me. Yet with your hope I will hope. And the Shadow I utterly reject. But neither, Lady, is the Twilight for me; for I am a mortal, and if you will cleave to me, Evenstar, then the Twilight you must also renounce." Then Arwen Undómiel looked into the West, and across the sea. At last she said: "I will cleave to you, Dúnadan, and turn from the Twilight." The above is based on Tolkien's writing, but was written by me. All quotes were directly copied to stay true to the story. |
